LOCKDOWN SKINCARE TIPS

Updated: Apr 3

Whilst your skincare appointments with your local aesthetician may be cancelled, who says you can’t get that ‘Lockdown Glow’ from the comfort of your own home? With the right skincare and the right tips, you’re all set. Whether you’re suffering from mask-ne or just need a bit of a brighten up, I’ve put together some of my top tips to share with you.

Firstly, let’s talk about mask-ne. I’ve seen such an increase in this since the lockdown first started back in March 2020, the mask-wearing combined with the stress and the uncertainty of the pandemic has been a catalyst for stubborn and persistent acne. Whilst we stay at home, my first big tip is KEEP YOUR SKIN CLEAR OF MAKEUP. Whilst you have the opportunity too, probably won’t happen again in our lifetimes, take this time at home to keep your skin clear. Makeup, as we all know, is never the best for keeping breakouts at bay, and your skin doesn’t have the ability to breathe, resulting in pores being blocked. Not only does this cause our skin to breakout, but our skin can appear dull and lifeless.

Another thing to maybe think about incorporating into your one of your cleanses once a week whilst you have the time, is facial massage. Facial massage is amazing for stimulating blood flow and draining toxins out of the skin, making the skin feel plumper and more toned – I always take the opportunity to use my iS CLINICAL Warming Honey Cleanser once a week for a cleanse/facial massage to boost my skins firmness. This will give your skin that in-treatment luxury feel, and you’ll feel AMAZING after it. I recommend even splashing your face with cold water a few times a week, it does wonders for your skin’s firmness.

Exfoliating is an important step to have in your routine if you want to have healthy, glowing skin, but even more so whilst we haven’t got the chance to go for our monthly skin treatments. Whether it be a daily exfoliator or just a few times a week exfoliator, they all work wonders. Depending on your exfoliator, you can mix some with cleansers to give a boosted cleanse, also this gives a gentler exfoliation. One of my favourites for this is Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant.

Why not treat yourself to a mini at-home facial?

Follow my steps below for a do-it-yourself SKIN BY Grace facial.

Step 1: Double Cleanse, incorporate a facial massage into your second cleanse. Remove using hot flannels, this will feel AMAZING.

Step 2: STEAM: Grab a bowel of hot water and place your face over it with a towel for 30 second intervals to help soften the sebum.

Step 3: Exfoliate

Step 4: Spritz a hydrating mist

Step 5: Masque; apply a targeted serum underneath to boost results

Step 6: Apply Eye Serum and targeted serum, and use a Jade Roller or Guasha stone to improve skin firmness

Step 7: Moisturiser

Keeping on top of your skincare routine can sometimes be difficult in normal day to day life, finding time is sometimes not on the top of your agenda. But whilst we have this time at home, take advantage of it, take your time doing your skincare routine. Treat it as a luxury and not a chore. Drink plenty of water, stay hydrated and get out in the fresh air, your skin will benefit massively. (Remember to wear your sunscreen)
